Glena Records
Director of Communications & Education
Glena Records is Director of Communications & Education for the Polly Klaas® Foundation and a 16-year resident of Petaluma, California. Records began her work with the Polly Klaas Foundation when her family volunteered in the search for Polly Klaas in 1993. She and her daughters, then twelve and nine, stuffed envelopes with posters every day after school, while her husband helped coordinate the phone bank. Records' older daughter had been a classmate of Polly's, and she and her sister asked to work at the volunteer center, along with many of Polly's classmates.
The memory of the effort made by so many dedicated volunteers remained with Records over the years and influenced her to join the staff of the Foundation in 2002.
As Director of Communications & Education, Records acts as the spokesperson for the organization within the community and to the government, prospective funders and with media to publicize its programs and needs. Her local and national media experience, from USA Today and the San Francisco Chronicle to Fox Cable News, includes interviews on various child safety and abduction topics, such as Amber Alerts, Internet safety and guidance to parents about finding children or keeping them safe.
Records also develops opportunities to enhance the image of the organization in the community and share its expertise. Among her many responsibilities, she works to build donor relations and helps parents seeking safety training guidance.
Prior to her employment at the Polly Klaas® Foundation, Records spent seven years as a resource teacher at Mary Collins School in Petaluma, teaching science, art and GATE programs for grades K-6. Her employment history also includes admissions, registrar and financial aid administration in public and private universities.
Records holds a BA from Cornell University. She and her husband, who currently directs homeless programs in Southern Sonoma County, have lived in Sonoma County since 1989.
